C. Ivan. Johnson

C. Ivan Johnson is a native of Tacoma, Washington born August 9, 1983. He is a figure of servitude. He is known for his multifaceted roles as a pastor, conference & concert host, author, community leader, and advocate for human rights.

 

Community and Faith Leadership 
Pastor Johnson is the founder and senior pastor of Greater Destiny Church in Tacoma, established in August 2016. GDC is a diverse, multi-generational congregation. Led by love, living in power, and uplifted in praise! Congregants have praised GDC as “a place enveloped by God’s power” and “full of love,” highlighting Pastor Johnson’s impactful leadership.
Beyond his pastoral duties, he serves as the founder and Executive Director of Greater Destiny 253, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting underserved and marginalized BIPOC youth and families in the Tacoma. www.greaterdestiny253.org

 

Civic Engagement
In addition to his nonprofit work, Pastor Johnson is actively involved in civic matters. He serves as a Commissioner on the City of Tacoma Human Rights Commission, where he contributes to addressing issues of prejudice, bigotry, and discrimination within the community. He is now serving his third term. Pastor Johnson also serves on the Board of Directors for the Barbara Jean Brown Manor of Tacoma. A HUD (Housing and Urban Development) senior and low income housing facility. Bridging his love for the city of Tacoma and Gospel music, in 2023, C. Ivan Johnson became the host and producer for the Mosaic, Gospel Stage. Mosaic is Tacoma’s largest multi-cultural and arts festival.

 

Kingdom Influence
Pastor Johnson’s influence extends beyond the local community. In 2017, he was nominated and selected as COGIC’s most influential, 20 persons under 40 years old. As a former radio personality, gospel concert host/promoter, and State Minister of Music, his contributions to gospel music in the Pacific Northwest, have been recognized nationally.
In 2021, He was appointed by the Presiding Bishop of the Church of God in Christ, Bishop J. Drew Sheard, as Vice President of the International Music Department for the Church of God in Christ, the largest Black Pentecostal denomination Worldwide. He was reappointed in 2025.
In 2023, He was appointed by his Bishop, Bishop Alvin C. Moore, Sr., as Superintendent of the Kingdom Fellowship District. Yearly the Kingdom Fellowship District hosts, the Kingdom Summit, “The Gathering of the Glory Carriers”. The impact of this conference transcends denominational and racial barriers.

 

Literary Work
He is also an author, releasing his first book in 2012, “A Servant’s Journal”, Encouraging Devotions and Exhortations. His freshman rendering continues to make a global imprint. He is a contributing writer of the book, “Son’s of Purpose”. This book is a view of biblical heroes, through the eyes of 21st Century men, released in 2025. Of all of his literary works, his newest book, “Soul Care is Self-Care”, is the book he is most ecstatic about releasing, Fall 2025. It’s a journey to Spiritual growth and inner well-being, curated to empower the trajectory of every reader.
